Coalition mission: “Drug-Alcohol Abuse Free Iredell Coalition is committed to the reduction and prevention of substance misuse and abuse and overdose deaths in Iredell County.“
- Interrupting the escalation of overdose deaths by encouraging members of the community to dispose of unused prescription medications;
- Educating providers on CDC safe prescribing guidelines, promoting the use of the Controlled Substance Reporting System and the use of Narcan/Naloxone, the reversal medication for an opioid overdose;
- Redefining substance abuse as a serious epidemic in the minds of the public;
- Reducing the access to prescription drugs by promoting “safe use, safe disposal and safe storage and never share.”;
- Advocating for legislative changes that assist in the reduction and prevention of substance misuse, abuse and overdose deaths in North Carolina;
- Supporting and providing evidence based youth substance abuse prevention strategies in the community;
- Developing sensitive and effective responses to those who have substance use disorders;
- Increasing community awareness of substance abuse, overdose and unintentional deaths by:
1. Providing opportunities for collaboration between service providers;
2. Providing information related to resources available for treatment, counseling, case management and recovery;
3. Providing opportunities for proper disposal of unused/unwanted prescription medications;
4. Providing information related to the State Health Director’s Standing Order for Naloxone and;
5. Providing information related to North Carolina’s Good Samaritan Law
